Welcome to Room 104
Hello, my name is Laura Benitez and I am thrilled to be your child’s first grade teacher! I am honored to be a part of the Wilder’s team, and to work toward your child becoming a successful scholar.
First grade is an important transition year, where the students will take the foundational skills they learned in kindergarten and begin to develop academic skills and practices -- all the while maturing and having lots of fun!
One thing that your child will notice when they enter my room is that I place a big focus on reading. I fully believe that good readers become successful students throughout all academic disciplines; therefore, we will be learning about different types and genres of books. We will have comprehension discussions and many other reading activities!
At Wilders, we use a curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards. That means that there will be lots of interactive, technological and project-based lessons. The four C’s of Common Core are Communicating, Collaborating, Creativity, and Critical Thinking, all of which will be intertwined in lessons to ensure your child receives a well-rounded education.
It is very important to me that your child be as successful as he/she can be. Therefore having an open line of communication is vital. Writing notes, email, or phone calls are great ways to contact me, along with setting up meetings to talk in person.
I look forward to getting to know your child and to working with you to make 1st grade a successful, productive and fun year!
