Mr. Darrell Williams » Welcome

Welcome

To the 2022-2023 school year of In-Person Learning. I am grateful we are returning to a new school year. We are excited to have the opportunity for great participation in learning. Our theme this year is " Beyond the Basics". Our 6th grade team is committed to finding ways to excite, engage, and interest your scholar to excel in Common Core Mathematics and Computer Science Content. The implementation of various On-Line tools such as NearPod, Kahoot, Nextgenmath.com, I-ready, and the Google Suites, will be used to facilitate learning in our Google Classroom. Our Students will apply and extend previous understanding of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers. They will use the Order of Operations to generate equivalent expressions and will also draw, construct, and describe geometric figures describing the relationships between them. Students will be able to solve real-life mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume. Finally, they will use data models to explore Statistics.

Students will also use a Interactive Notebook, PowerPoint for Instruction, Do-Now’s, On-line Assessments, and Exit-Slips to reach our curriculum goals. Your student is also provided Intervention support when needed by a caring team of Intervention Teachers to facilitate our 6th Grade Math Course. Our Admins, Curriculum Specialists, and our Testing Coordinator provide leadership as competent Shareholders. Students have fun learning mathematics through real-life projects, white-board challenge, and hands-on use of Math Manipulatives in the classroom.

The Computer-Science component of our classroom includes supplemental Math lessons that are available through our Google Classroom. Here scholars can access online resources like Illuminate and Typing.com to supplement our math learning objectives. They also learn to keyboard, use email, and Google Applications. Basic Computer Literacy is taught and our scholars learn to be responsible citizens in the use of technology among their peers. Computer Technology time is also made available so that our students can complete typing and research assignments given to them by their ELA, Science, and Social Studies classes. It is our goal to create computer literate scholars to provide them with skills they will use in High School and Post Graduate Studies.

Students are expected to follow all classroom rules and procedures, as well as, the school wide policies for behavior found in the Parent-Student Handbook 2022-2023. Homework is a necessary component of our class. A due date will be given and it should be completed before the next class meeting. It is an expectation that students are in class every day, on time. Students who have a planned absence (i.e. doctor’s appointment, extended vacation, etc.) are expected to notify the teacher in advance to reschedule an assessment. Students need to retake an assessment if they score less than 70%.

Remember, "Lets stay grounded , but move beyond the Basics!!!"

Welcome to our 6th Grade Math and Computer Science Classes...
