okay so I'm mister haske I'm going into my this is my third year in second grade at Wilder Miss Fenton my name is Benjamin and I have been with welders for 2 years is my second year I have been teaching Elementary for over ten years and I'm really excited yeah so I am excited to have your kids in our classroom and second grade is pretty awesome and then our intervention specialist Miss Gabriel specialist and I will just around every day to help your kids academically don't know I didn't see if she was in here yet are here to help support your Scholars while we're in the classroom so they are an extra set of eyes and ears and hands to help us develop this way ahead and get started I think this is right so we're going to start by talking about our curriculum in second grade we're not going to obviously go through every topic but we're going to just talk about some over music things that you can do to support this curriculum at home I'm starting with math we're going to do learn addition and subtraction through a thousand or we're going to be doing a lot of word problems in anticipation of next year when you're sick I will be taking the smarter balanced assessment and so we're going to go through a lot of different topic things that we're looking for in terms of a you guys at home while we'll be doing a lot of the primary teaching and of course we'll be doing daily lessons we'll get into that a little bit later a couple of things that I would ask is working with your children with their basic math fluency so 9 + 655 + 73 + 3 down with them to automaticity where they can just say it without having to use a finger so on and so forth is really really great it is a great benefit and all of the different things because the addition that we're going to be doing is going to build off those basic math facts in also I personally would like to suggest that even though we don't see money in our curriculum for a long time please start showing your children money specifically the as we get to the end of second grade and 18 ever green coins we get that everybody's got Apple pay and Google pay and and and tap card and all of this different things but whenever you come across and change just letting them explore that letting them see what those coins and with those be those look like so that when we get to it at the end of the year it's not the first time encountering it and yeah so for elar focus for this year is really to help our students move from first grade which is their learning to read right they're just learning to read and now they are reading to learn but it's a really big job they're no longer focusing as much on like the phonics in the G codeine but now they are trying to build their reading comprehension so we definitely ask that you guys read every single day even David it's my school day it is also important you know and if you have a chance to read here and there you know it's great to model that as well even if it's something basic that you have you know magazine things like that they said they seen you read is also going to make them want to read so that's really a big Focus for us in in ela that reading comprehension as well as write it so your child he was just beginning to really complete those sentences and make sure making sure there's capitalism Patrician those little things but we need to move them towards being able to build on there getting extended writing on next year third grade they are going to be expected to write essays and so in order for us to get them there they really need to do a lot of practicing with their writing at home one thing you I can do is definitely have a little journal and so whenever there whether it's feelings or just had diarrhea things like that whenever you can get them to write extra that is an awesome thing to do rise again with we're doing a lot of growing and developmentally at this age you know seven eight years old they're ready to take on these challenges so the more that you are encouraged them and support them in that the the growth that is going to be a we will also begin for severe as well you're going to start getting person I know it's one of the few things that many schools don't do anymore but I'd Wilder's we do still want them to do cursive what are the big things are the big benefits of presidents also their final order it really helps them a lot so do you want to show them some of your person because I'm sure you probably learned that's all so pretty so we will be doing which is some of the things that the students absolutely love it's when we go deep into above we really discuss this chapter books we read them out loud and they usually we get to have a movie at the end and celebrate all our hard work because we work very hard during our novel studies and we'll be reading Charlotte's Web Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as well as through a little and that's it for me. Do you want to share social studies Gaston for social studies for second grade over teen focus is the people who made a difference but we kind of rolls Pocus on people can present we're kind of making a difference and doing you know we're in the extraordinary things we also look at things that happened in the past understanding not and then geography mapping skills learning how to read a math what is a man who is kind of a little bit of economics there and then for science would you be and yes standards as well as the engineering and design process and so now that we are back in the classroom this year going to make it a lot easier to be able to do some Hands-On fun science experiments engineering working on the engineering design process where you know you're planning something there you know Timmy trial runs making the therapy not spearmint or their creation better and things like that all right and so the last thing just as a school we are working on the social and emotional development of our Scholars everybody has been through a really tough time over the last 18 months since the pandemic originally started it and it's taxing it's tiring and if you can think of how you feel as an adult with everything that's been going on imagining that trying to fit those same emotions into a seven or eight-year-old little body is a lot going on so we are spending a lot of time I'm trying to develop I socially and emotionally especially because again these the last time these Scholars were in school they were kindergartner so they missed a lot of the social promotion and social growth that comes with I'm first grade as a gray level we are focusing on developing a growth mindset and again we'll talk a little bit more about I'm what you can do to support that at home as well as the Wilders way and we're not going to go through the entire thing about what that means but it's just a set of and pillars that exemplify what we what we believe in here at Wilders prep obviously you guys chose the school because of our academic excellence and we want to continue to oppose I'm a couple of things that I did see about the novel study you do not need to like go out and buy these books these are books that we have at school we will be assigning your colouring book so like don't like copy down the note so that you can go out and buy these will be assigning those books to the scholars when we get to that part of the school year where we meet them and then they'll just return them when we're done with that but so don't go out and buy anything and everything that you do I will make sure that you guys have access to this is me as is a general second grade standard of our classroom expectations are as follows and again will he what time will we talk about specific classroom rules cuz everybody classroom has obviously different but all students are expected to rise where eagles and told Eagles rise and sore we respect people property and ideas we always have integrity which we tell the full truth of chickweed are a service which means we support our community will be your friend and will be responsible if we season try even if it's not ours might you know go ahead put it in trash can so on and so forth and then we have excellent actually something that we expect across the grade level for everyone to always do their best we are not holding anybody to the standard of everybody else in the classroom however each purse the best that they can do and we expect to see that all the time I'm including starting with their uniform when you come in can look like you just got off of work and then always being prepared meaning you bringing the necessary materials okay and you skipped one okay there we go okay so just to continue their classroom expectation just so that we are clear what we're doing in the classroom to help the students meet these go we know that a positive classroom environment is essential to the success and confidence and well-being of every child so in order to help the students rice what we do in the classroom we remodel we pray we use our words were constantly being giving them positive praise we do a variety of different types of reward each classroom has their own we also discussed these appropriate behavior is whether it's through books or it's through storytelling we discuss why why do we why is integrity important why do we need to be responsible why is it important to be kind what does kind of look like the all these things are discussed in the classroom we also have the the philosophy that states we aspire to challenge our students to become self-directed thinkers who take greater responsibility for their own learn and that's really important because as second graders now they're old enough developmentally to start gaining independence so it's really important that we start helping them to stay organized to not judge follow directions but go above and beyond right so they are the ones that are logging on and making sure they're doing their homework they are the ones that are taking on that responsibility I didn't order for us to help them do that we we as parents need to also help by I'm a parent of a second grader as well I have a 5th grader and a second grader so I see my second grader sometimes as I feel my baby because she is cancel I do remind myself that as a seven-year-old she can do a lot of things independently and so it's very important for us to help them do that at home tomorrow these behaviors how to make a cake okay pack your back what's in your backpack make sure you have your lunch or your water your homework folder whatever it is that they are needing and just give them that space to build that Independence and of course one of the very famous sayings and Miss Ramona and is Wilder share with us is Teamwork Makes the Dream work so it's definitely in the classroom share these values and at home we we hope you're sharing these goddesses Miss Trask so uniform and materials so it is very important that the students coming to school everyday in their uniforms you know how to put together so for the boys that's the button-down white shirt tucked into shorts or pants all black shoes jumpers or right now it's also the white shirts and sweaters one thing uniforms that is a really important is to make sure if the name embroidered on the sweaters just make sure that would like a Senor razor name on in one of the packets because a lot of times to get left out at I can easily find they belong to I'm in on Fridays and you can wear the Friday where which is either their wildest tracksuit or they can also wear their school polo with their blues or blue pants and then every it's important that they have a water bottle and a mass so I have been asking my students how to have more than one mask in your backpack just because a lot of times during the day they have to push the mask because you know that your snaps will snap things like that and just in case 01 QX4 mass in their backpack we need to switch it for whatever reason they have some other options water bottle covid-19 the water fountains are not able to be used have to bring their own water bottle and what they've been doing pretty pretty good thought. But you know if they forget the hard for them to go whole day with either no water or water bottle school that they can use with the water bottle everyday we also are taking water bottles donation for the classes you know we can purchase this case the water for the class but it does it's kind of a lot week after week so if you want to donate any known cases of just like little water bottles to the classrooms that would also be really helpful right and let's keep going on the homework policy and I know this is big because again this is kind of a shift special from kindergarten to how things were students will receive daily homework Monday through Thursday via the Google Classroom so some of the assignments will be completed directly on the Google classroom and some of them acquire them to complete a worksheet and upload a photo directly after we complete this back to school night presentation there will be a tutorial on how to use some of the functionality on Google Classroom so if you you are struggling with if you don't know how to do you didn't have to use it last year we get that this is your new and different definitely stick around at the end and we will be having a tutorial specifically on how to use Google classroom in some of the more commonly used functions of the Google classroom on the purpose of the homework is not only to review the concepts but to promote responsibility we all go to work we all have jobs we all have things that we have to do and so part of the students job is to retake the time necessary to reinforce what they've learned you know in the school day we only have so much time we want to make sure that they get that additional practice at home I'm in it helps us in building on to the next lesson for the next day this is really important and I cannot stress this enough please review the homework with your child even if you're not home when they do it please log onto the Google classroom and look at what they've turned in and make sure that it looks like it makes sense make sure that they understand what they did and didn't just markdown answers necessarily saying that you need to change their answers for them or anything like that as we discussed were talking about personal responsibility but what happens a lot of times he's that are Scholars figure out they can press to turn it in button and have not have meaning of the word and you guys don't really look at it so then they turned it no homework and then when the report card comes you're surprised because they've turned in homework every day how could they possibly have a lower grade than that so we want to make sure that we're holding them accountable by going into the assignment looking to make sure that they've done their work and again just trying their best on a day-to-day basis we will have a reading log and a spelling or vocabulary activity the swelling will be on vocabulary A to Z the reading log will be part of the Google Classroom we will have math homework every single day and then on Monday and Wednesday we will have a grammar concept then on Tuesday and Thursday we would you be doing ReadWorks which is the reading comprehension so that's kind of what our homework will look like this is not something that should take hours upon hours do so you know we definitely we we make it where it is a manageable thing if they sit down and work diligently not including the 20 minutes of reading this should not take I would say probably much more than an hour most of them if they're struggling and it's taking two and three hours and they just don't get it that's something that you know definitely let us know as teachers so that that's something that we can again have our intervention teacher or on the truck no way I'll be able to Target and work with them during the day to make sure that they have a better grasp of the concept and one time sorry about that little technical difficulty grades and testing so are our Big Sur our grades are pretty basic most places on 9200 percent is it for enough Advanced 89 to 80 80% is at 3 and that's proficient 79 is 70% is basic 69% below below basic so of course we're always wanting your children to be at Advance you know proficient means they're they're doing well they can do things independently basic means that they're still can eating a lot of support to do whatever concept that they're doing we get these grades based on many things as assessment so we have our spelling test we have a mass past we have a reading comprehension and sometimes there's grammar in their these tests are usually always given on Friday so all week we will review these Concepts and then on Friday we we will that's them. A Fridays or assessment day sometimes for like larger unit so we'll we'll have a unit assessment will do like mini quizzes for example if we're doing doubles in there just practicing their double so we will do things like that we also getting observation so what we've seen them right in class what work is turned in class participation and is also very big deal so we did you expect these dollars to participate in class has their voice is important to us so we definitely encourage all students to participate in class and put in effort you probably heard and you will continue to hear we want their best so it doesn't mean that they will Ace everything maybe they might not know something then that means they're going to raise their hand and they're going to ask questions such as we putting in effort and wanting to learn and showing that is what we're looking for not that they need to know everything because obviously we're at school so I always tell them hey if you don't know ask it's okay we want to know that you don't know so we can help you even the spending doesn't know everything right that's why we're in school we're always going to learn till we're old and gray we're going to learn and so having that my mom said that we want to learn and we have that open my that's what we're looking for so that's our grades and testing are done also just so you guys know you can always check through your area so that's where parents go to church okay this is kind of like the picture of our daily schedule if my depending on the class but this is kind of like General 245 I'm usually between 45 and 8 are making their way up to the classroom and then is when instruction morning work and then at 9:25 to go to recess we come back from Recess our math lesson for the day and then go into Ela at 11 and then the afternoon is more focused on or more focus on at Yellowstone reading grammar writing phonics and like that you're not yell a box then we have social studies and then art Mondays and Thursday afternoon switch off the swing and social studies science and our and then on Wednesdays we have a early dismissal we are out at 1 on Wednesday you're all right and so just one point of clarification on drop off their start at 7:30 if you want to make sure that you guys know it does start at 7:30 bass start bringing the students from the yard to us at 7:45 so don't make sure that you guys are dropping them off in time because they do get also get their breakfast in the morning on Mondays are especially important obviously as we have to test every Monday making sure that they get there really does help us get the rest of our day started on time I'm it's difficult when we have kids trickling in 10-15 minutes after 8:00 because the in there behind that a deficit and make it a little bit more difficult for them to do which brings us to are back and I saw a couple of questions about the schedule breakfast breakfast they come in and get breakfast they do not eat breakfast right away when they come into the school and I'll go back to scream when they come into the school they will pick up their breakfast what they do is they come to the room and then they the package breakfast they have like a waffle or muffin some juice or something like that they eat that breakfast at recess time for the most part and so when they come out to recess they sit down they're able to eat breakfast where they brought a snack from home and then there are some structured play activities that are socially distant things like relay racing and so on and so forth but those are on I'm sorry so the breakfast thing by believe they stop serving it at 8 but I am not absolutely certain I will find out the answer to that though and send it to me, in terms of the police safety guidelines and just I will reinforce that in this time we really want to make sure that we're being saved and doing everything possible to keep your Scholars thing and so the way that you and the family help us with that is if you know him your child is it or they're starting to get sick and they're sniffling and it and they're just not feeling good please please please keep them at home as much as we would love to have them in school every single day we know that sometimes it just may not be pop I want to make sure that if they are sick that you don't send them to school sick because a that puts other children at risk and that's unfair to them but be it's extra difficult to be sick and have a stuffy nose and have all these feelings and they have to cover it with the mask all day so because we're wearing our masks with the exception of when they're eating or drinking think about how miserable it might be for a small person with the mask and snot and stuff coming out to know if you really want to make sure that we are everything possible to prevent that we are saying to take tires in like crazy obviously not over so it's but when we come back from recess and lunch will go out there are sanitation sanitation stations around the school at the bottom of the stairs we're doing everything we can to make sure that their hands are clean that's just something that we also want to make sure that you guys are reinforcing at home I'm just making sure that if they've blown the no they don't anything that they are either washing their hands are getting a little dollop of sanitizer I also again on a personal note want to make sure that you and adviser is not a replacement for soap time because they love sanitizer and they will sanitize every 10 seconds if you allow them to and statistically the same as high as it stops being as effective if they're using it that often because it starts to dry their hands out it just it doesn't kill the Joe the same way if it's being used all the time so please let them know that it is not meant to be like a 100% replacement for soap and water and then obviously covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing how much like we would do with the flu during this time is especially important that we're not sneezing or coughing into our hands and then going and touching things which is what little people would tend to do that we're using the inside of our elbow or a tissue or something of that sort to a cough and sneeze okay so a few other things just to add on again we do talk to them about not touching our eyes not touching their nose or mouth all these are I don't want these girls to get into their body so just helping to remind them to keep our hands to ourselves and not touch others so the other thing and this one's a really big one that I want to just go what is getting plenty of rest because I'm not sure it when your children come home they're tired but I do know that in the classroom we have had many students I'm almost falling asleep and it's not because we're not moving or what you mean we've done like jumping exercises Brain Breaks were thinking we're doing all kinds of movement activities Oh it's not that they're just sitting and bored but it's because they're tired so please please make sure that your child is getting enough sleep you know that is so crucial for them as as young as I know for us he have different routines and some of us work late but it's very important that they can go to sleep so if you sleep at 11 midnight wonderful that's fine I understand we'll grown but these kiddos definitely need guidance they need how to make sure they're going to sleep that they're getting at least 8 hours minimum they definitely can get more 10 hours would be even better so please please help them to to get to bed there's a lot of free things to do at night for them they're like I watch a movie or I want to play a game or anything like that but please encourage them to be in but they need your support with that 20 fruits and vegetables getting exercise and healthy healthy eating healthy as best as we can is going to help build that immune system we know there's a lot of yucky bugs out they're not just Kobe but a lot of other things. just want to make sure that we're building those antibodies than anything healthy okay if you were saying earlier from you know 7:30 all the way up until 8 though in the morning once they get dropped off they go and they get their breakfast and then they make their way up to the classroom on Monday a little bit different because of the earlier that they are able to be chopping off not before 7:30 but around 7:30 quicker they're able to get up to the classroom and then get there covid test and then they can come back into the classroom what date is when we're starting is if they are no later than they would be if your child is not going to be spent are there going to be early for any reason it's really important that you communicate to our rear teacher our child's teacher is this kind of let them know we are really making sure that they have whatever they I need when they're called down to the office or if they're absolutely kind of help fill in if there's anything important that we might be missing from her things like that and then if they are missing Sunday or Monday is the covid testing day if they are not at school on Monday in this passage you have to be covid test before they can return to school so I have to go to get it and then you'll just then. the office and then they can return to school so just make sure I'm going to have to send them home for the day bottom line is they are knocking on a Monday and so then the last thing that we'll talk about it as a whole group and then what we'll do is break into our for the individual teacher so if you have specific questions for your teacher is collaboration so we cannot be successful this year without your support we cannot be successful is not possible for us to be successful is Teachers if we do not have the support at home and told what we want to do is build a consistency between I'm home and school in a way that will help your scholar develop more quick the ways that that wood that looks like is a promoting student Independence and self-determination so even when things are hard allowing them to work through things and allowing them to do things that they can't even hang who own their own we're not telling you that you have to let your seven-year-old email the teacher if they're having a problem but if they're having a problem logging into the Google Classroom you can tell them the password but let them typing and let them work on it as we mentioned earlier with the growth mindset what that means is that we're allowing them the room instead of a defeatist mindset where they just had no I can't do this I need to get better at this I need to work harder at this good thing that allow your mind to think positive Ade on the way that we think is the way that our lives will go so positivity is a choice that we can all make daily and we're going to do everything the Wilders way and again we're doing things to the greatest and highest level that we can every morning we say we Wilder's mission statement and champions Creed because we believe that all of our Scholars are champions simple step begin just enclosing to make sure that they're excelling in sure that they're getting bed on time having conversations with your scholar and this is really big for me personally or the children learn to hold conversations and talk the better wrightington to develop because they develop their vocabulary if you allow them to say how's school and every child between the ages of 5 and like 20 to say good and you never asked anybody would question they never learn to elaborate or a detail to what they're talkin about to just having a conversation even if something as simple as how their day wasn't having them explain some of the things that they went to will not only build their vocabulary but it will help cement some I think that they weren't because if they can explain it it means that they understand it better and the last one is don't put limits on their success so if you feel like all man I wasn't good at math when I was in school so that means you won't be good that that is defeatist and I will keep them from trying to apply themselves they'll start to think that it's a foregone conclusion that they can't be good at 9 so we are not going to put any limits on their success just because they are struggling with something the moment does not mean that that's going to be forever just because they don't like something at the moment doesn't mean that that's going to be forever at some point they didn't know how to walk but they had to stick with it in order to be able to walk in the same way I could definitely you can't for them everywhere you can't carry them everywhere eventually they're going to get too big for that so you have to allow them to think in a way that will promote their grow around did you do today questions that we send the copy of the championship re-home it is on the school website but we can also look forward to putting that perhaps on the Google classroom in the face that is accessible for you I have to go in and check that out and so is there if there's not anything else do you have anything else to add before we go to the breakout room why cream, yeah it was a little breakout room so you're going to get to go to yours your child's teacher and said there's specific smaller questions you can just ask is there alright so here's what's going to happen ladies and gentleman and just a second I'm going to open the breakout room the breakout rooms are listed by teachers are the three breakout rooms one for me one for you and this fencing at the bottom of your screen you should eat seafood where's that's a breakout room and you should be allowed to click on that and then click join the room of the teacher of your child's teacher if you have a scholar anymore cuz I know we have a couple of siblings during the same grade if you have a scholar in multiple rooms you should be allowed to jump back and forth between the two as necessary if when we open the breakout room do not see the option to move to the breakout room just let me know in the chat was teaching me to go to and then I'll move you but please because there's a lot more of you than there are of us please look for those four squares as a breakout room first and then if it is not allowing you to move in we will I move you all right in here we go. We're going to come back to this room and then if you need to stay for the for the tutorial on the Google Classroom that will happen directly after the breakout rooms are over so I'm going to open the breakout rooms now and then you guys can go ahead and move into those rooms as seriously do it again please look for those four squares it should be down at the bottom if you're on the phone I believe it's actually in the top right but other than that you should see where it says a breakout room and it gives you the option to move not a lot of people moving already and again if you don't see it that's fine just type the name of the teacher and I will assign you as necessary so if you don't see the option to move to the breakout rooms at the bottom then let me know and I will I move you individually song still have looks like a handful of parents again if you are not able to move into the breakout room please let me know which teacher to move you to so that we can move you down I got a couple people laugh. so I still have a couple people laugh are you guys able to move okay where is Kalia and Kalia are there to introduce myself live recording that stopped at the breakout rooms okay so let me go back to step just so that I can get that information so you're going to open Google Chrome you're going to type in or if it opens up to the Google site then you're going to click on this blue sign in but then again this is only if you are not on the school computers if you are on the school computers when you log into the computer it login as your sky so it will already be past this stuff you'll type in your children's email address and click next and then enter their passwords and that'll bring you to this little screen write so it'll have either a picture of them or their initial so some of this again some of the kids they're very intuitive they learn how to put their own profile pictures up there they put a picture of their sister or their favorite video games but there will be a call icon in the upper-right hand corner if it's not there then again it'll be their initial so for example if the students name is Tanya and they'll be at HEB in that upper right hip corner The Next Step next to that icon there are nine little squares that looks like a little Waffle you're going to click on that and it'll open up and show you all of the things you have access to the Google The Google account that your scholar has DDD so we will not need most of them but we do want to make sure that you are aware of them we need the Google Chrome icon Google Docs they will use at some point but again that will be created in the Google Classroom Google Drive is where every assignment they have ever turned in will be there will be if they is there was an assignment that does that has their name on it it will be in the Google drive it will have their Google Docs it will have their Google slides and will have any Google Sheets any Google form that they use will be found in the Google Drive the different icon slide sheets forms will get you to specific types of icons there's also one more that I obviously we'll need to get to which is the jamboard icon and is it works the exact same way so every jamboard or homework assignment be in the Google Drive and there will also be a separate icon for the Google jamboard did Italy and then the rest of these we don't really need the the last one we real is the Google Classroom that's the green square with the yellow around it looks like a chalkboard which by the way your kids don't know what your boys are kind of crazy you're going to click on the wall and then click on the Google classroom that's how you'll get to your classroom it will give you an option for your specific teacher in in just a second I'll show you what that looks like but for most of us and we should only have one teacher so you should only Miss Fenton if your Investments by the only see mr. Miller featuring mr. Miller's class so on and so forth you should not actually have multiple option unless your child is in Upper Grade for those of you who have siblings that are in higher grade in Middle School will have an option don't have a classroom for each each teacher that they have cuz it'll be separated by class so this is what it looks like as soon as you click on the Google classroom these are the options that you see right so you got this little three lines here that's the menu that would again give you other classroom options if you if your child was assigned to other classes again they're not so don't worry about that number two who is going to tell you that you were in mr. Miller's Champions or Miss Fenton Scholars so on and so forth the stream is just the order in which activities have been assigned think about it as your Facebook timeline world class work and we'll talk a lot more about this in just a second people will tell you which other students are in the classroom and give of the options to email specifically the teachers that are assigned to the classroom for like I am time is Gabriel has access to my Google Classroom Miss Robinson they all can see this and it has their email address and then again to waffle in the icon or over here laughing on this page that I really want to when is the upcoming assignments this tells you what things are do most soonest right so you're absolutely have you know so like if you look on it today and this evening it will tell you we have a homework assignment that's due tomorrow by 8 a.m. for my class I always make the assignment due by 8 in the morning the next day because I ate there in class I know that they can't possibly be doing it by that time but sometimes I get it we have a long night we couldn't get to the homework and you just going to wake him up a little bit earlier so that they can finish uploading it I allowed because honestly if you were paper homework they'd have until the time they got the class finish the homework and so that's why the due date is the way that it is the homework will always be for the next day at 8 a.m. before it is before it is a do if there are any they will find themselves lower on this list and then we'll talk about what that looks like in the class Works section but if we have any projects like we will when we get to Charlotte's Web I like we will when we get to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Stuart Little if there are any project they will be in a separate section don't have a more extended due date so obviously on the to-do list it'll be lower on that list did you do the two things that again we're really focusing on is number for cuz that's the easiest way to view your assignments and number 8 that tells you what to do the soonest the poopy poop when you click on when you're in the Google Classroom to from this site you're going to click on where it says class work and it will take you to a screen that looks like this now for it is not this complicated we made it Barry user-friendly I believe we all have it separated by days of a different section or the day so we have Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and then any other things like again for my class I have a section that says on my password which has a Google doc with everybody's password is on them or how to get onto the password does not have the password it tells you how to get onto the different day but each section is labeled easiest form again from me I would say it's easier for you to just click on what day it is so if today is Wednesday you're going to keep you can go over here to the menu and click on Wednesday and it will take you directly to Wednesday's assignments okay I'll once you get to the different day and you see an assignment you want to click on that assignment on the assignment title and I will drop down to have the instructions or what things need to be done and it'll have the option to the assignment you always want to click on view assignment because what usually happens is that's where are not what usually happens that's where your turn it in button is going to be right over here on the right you will be able to see if your scholar has turned it in or not if it is if it hasn't been if it is if it's today's assignment it will say a sign if they turned it in it will say turned in if it is the due date has and if they did not turn it in it will say missing so those are the three messages were looking for so if you want you know you didn't have time to check Tuesdays homework you can go and click on Tuesday and you will be able to see whether or not they turned it in right so as of this week you know you know before we got it it was a little confusing as of this week nobody sending homework to ClassDojo nobody sending things to the email where sin things on the Google Classroom okay I'm actually going to stop this year because I need to bring up a different screen and I'm going to show you how this is that's not what I wanted I'm going to show you how this looks from a student standpoint so I have so on the screen as you can see there's a nail here the LA Miss Lee who's letting me use this account and we have this little Waffle here I'm going to cook on the waffle I'm going to go to the Google classroom and then give me the options of the rooms that I can be a part of again for you you will only see one classroom and should only say mr. Miller's Champion so we're going to do is we're going to click on that and it brings us to this home screen the assignment that we talked about today it tells us our upcoming assignments so the ReadWorks assignment from yesterday was due today and so it was due today at 8 a.m. if it has intern in it is considered late again we're giving a Grace. For these first few days while we're no trying to learn everything but technically it was due today at 8 a.m. do tomorrow is the homework from so tomorrow at 8 a.m. to do time for today's homework will be there and again if you look at the string it kind of shows this a little bit of everything right the reason why we want to click on classwork is because it only shows you the information that you need right every week I will send you the newsletter to your class dojo but it will also be posted here the newsletter is important because it has the spelling words it has evolved earlier words and it has the topic that will be discussing this week so if your kid comes home and tells you that they were doing long division today you should be able to go look at our agenda and see we weren't talking about long division today again here is our detailed list of our online passwords and platforms and that is separate and then everything else as you can see is just the days of the week so I would go to today which is Wednesday I would go I'm on Wednesday I see that today's homework has been assigned right and I also see that last week's homework is missing so somebody didn't but you know I didn't turn in last week's homework so I'm going to click on the assigned title it'll take me into the assignment and it'll give me this jambore so this is what we were talking about with the jamboard assignments every day you will have a jamboard assignment it will either the worksheet uploaded are ready for them to write on or it will tell you to take a picture right if you don't if you need to take a picture you can click on where it says add image play where it says camera and then it'll allow you to take a camera I'm not going to just not going to let me use the camera cuz I'm using it for this video call but you'll click on where it says add image you go to camera and it'll give you that opportunity this video will be available for playback in the Google classroom and on the school website for each day they will have a math assignment don't have a reading log assignment so again that's supposed to read for 20 to 25 minutes and answer one of the questions about the book that they read and then again on Monday and Wednesday they will have a grammar sheet where they fill in using either the pen tool or the text tool on when you're done with all three pages of the Google Classroom you will do not do not do not need this pic this year but do not share this with me we don't need you to share with the teacher you were going to go back to the Google Classroom so you going to cook there should be a separate time for it you're going to go back to the Google classroom and you're going to take the turn in button so I I am turning in my sign me to say are you sure you'll click turn it in and then now your homework has been turned in now what if you get home and you look at your kids homework and you realize that they turned it in and they didn't do anything on their homework you can click the unsubmit but it is not Final on the homework you can click the unsubmit button and have them go back and edit it but once it's submitted they cannot make changes that if you need to make changes you must click on the under submit button okay one last thing I want to make sure that I get you in terms of a homework is on Tuesday you will have the homework assignment but you will also the ReadWorks assignment right so you'll click on the ReadWorks assignment and there will be a link that takes you directly to ReadWorks okay it should log you in automatically but if it does not you'll click on the student login button and it'll give you the option to sign in with Google you took that and again your password should already be saved, and then it'll bring you to the passage you will read the passage an answer the question it was asked earlier is there if you got all the questions wrong can they redo them yes but in order for that to happen you need to message the teacher say hey you know I would like for them to have another opportunity again within the reasonable hours of for mine I believe my Dojo cuts off at 6:30 and I am not exactly sure about the other teachers but if we receive your will go back in will be able to reset the assignment and will give them another opportunity to do that we do want to make sure that we are not making a habit of having them just rushed through to see if they got all the answers right and then asking for to be reset so that they can try it again for my class Pacific Lee I will allow them to redo it but I will only allow it once I'm not going to spend all night resetting different assignment so if you see that they've got in the mall please message me because the other thing is we don't want to necessarily just punish them for not taking their time or not understanding or whatever the case may be but as we talked about our building self responsibility so if they know that struggling with the end they had to redo it making sure that they take their time and get the support necessary in again when you're done with the ReadWorks assignment you come back and click the mark As done button so that I can know to go check it so weak and you're going to say mark it as done even though there's no work over in this section you still going to mark it as done so that I know that it's been completed and I can go in a sign points on the Google Classroom just helps me with the overall grading people that does let you know who the classmates are as well as the teachers who are assigned to help your Scholars with their work and then it gives you this late email icon in which if you need to send an email directly to me you can click on mad or send them to me and then that will give you a direct email to me and you can say ask any questions specific to be homework and with that I believe that is the end of my presentation all right so I am going to
