Star of the week

Dear Parents,

In order to promote self-esteem and friendship throughout the year, each child in the class will enjoy one week as our shining star!  Please look at the attached schedule to see when your child is the shining star.   Here’s what you can expect for that week:

  1.  Shining Star Bulletin Board:

BY the Thursday before your child’s special week, please send some family photos to school in your child’s folder and the Star poster or items to be displayed on our Shining Star board.  They will be returned to you the following week.  Great ideas for photos are:

  • Your child at various ages and stages
  • Pictures of his/her immediate and extended family
  • Your child showing off a passion or interest
  • Special family vacations or places your child likes to go

Along with the pictures, please write and finish the following statements on separate index cards (or paper about the same size) to match the poster and for your student to present:

  • When I grow up I want to be…
  • My favorite food is….
  • My favorite color is…
  • My favorite subject in school is…
  • I like to play…
  • People say I am...
  • My favorite book is…
  • If I could travel anywhere I would go to…
  • After school I like to…
  1. Shining Star Letter:

We will be reading a letter written by you, aloud, telling the class how special your child is.

  1. Shining Star Snack:

On the Wednesday of your child’s special week you may send in your child’s favorite snack to share with the class.  It would be easier for us if this treat is individually wrapped to make sharing as quickly possible.  We will eat the snack at 2:00.

  1. Shining Star Lunch & Reader:

Your child may invite up to three guests. These could be parents, relatives or a family friend to come to school on Friday of your child’s Shining Star Week from 11:00-12:00 to eat lunch in the cafeteria with our class.

Shining Star Lunch & Reader

If you are planning to eat a school lunch, an adult lunch costs around $3.25.  Please let your teacher know the day of so adult lunches can be ordered. After lunch, your child’s guest(s) comes to the classroom to share the child’s favorite picture book with the class from 11:45-12:00

On Friday, the “Shining Star” will present and share his/her photos and all the special things that make them unique, as well as introduce his/her special guest (s).  Then our special guest will read one picture book to the class (please bring a book to read).

Finally, at the end of the year, the shining star will receive a book created by his/her classmates as a thank you and special memento explaining how much we think he/she shines!

Any of the activities can be adjusted to fit your schedule but please keep your teacher informed of what event is happening which day.  Please do not plan an activity on Friday until after 2:00 PM.  If you have any questions regarding our Shining Star program, please feel free to ask.  This promises to be great fun for all!

 Thank You,

Ms. Williams
