Principal's 2022-2023 Welcome

Dear Wilder's Preparatory Academy Community,

I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the students, families, teachers and staff of this awesome school! I am committed to working with you to support continuing the rich legacy that is Wilder's Preparatory Academy Charter School. I've met many parents, family members and students and I love the energy I've received. I appreciate being welcomed into the Wilder's Family!

This year our theme is "Beyond the Basics: The Wilder's Way!" Wilder's has a long history of excellence in the Inglewood community. We have made some changes this year. These changes are going to result in continued social-emotional and academic support for our scholars. We have a dedicated staff who are committed to helping our scholars thrive. My goal is to support the great work that is taking place at Wilder's Prep. Academy and to work alongside our students, teachers, staff and families to help each student grow.

Here's a little about me. My family migrated to California from Knoxville, Tennessee in 1984. I attended UCLA on an academic scholarship and I earned my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from USC

in 2009. I would love for my scholars to have the same opportunities I have had. Education is my passion. I believe it opens doors to increased opportunities in life. I have 24 years of experience in education as a principal, central office administrator, instructional coach, educational consultant, and as a teacher. I pride myself in using innovative, culturally responsive instructional strategies that help scholars and educators meet the academic and social-emotional goals they set for themselves.

I am a firm believer that schools, families, and community members work best together as allies supporting our scholars. We will have many opportunities to engage with one another this year.

I look forward to a successful 2022 - 2023 school year filled with learning and joy!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jamila Gillenwaters
