Special Education Department Information

Wilder’s Preparatory Academy Charter Schools would like to introduce their Special Education Program. Wilder’s is partnered with El Dorado Charter Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA). Wilder’s Designated Instructional Services (DIS) are provided through Non-Public Agency.

The Special Education Program here at Wilder’s includes the following classroom setting:

General Education Setting with Accommodations: Students who experience mild learning difficulties that are supported with individualized accommodations under a general education credentialed teacher.

Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Setting: Students who experience learning difficulties in one or more subject areas (as measured by formal assessments and identified in their IEP’s) are part of the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) Setting. These students attend general education classes and are taught by credentialed special education teachers in the deficit subject area. There are RSP programs at all Inglewood Unified School District schools.

Designated Instructional Services (DIS): Speech and Language Pathologists (SLI), Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), Adapted Physical Education (APE), Behavior Intervention Services (BII/BID), Counseling, Educationally Related Intensive Counseling Service (ERICS) Counseling, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Visually Impaired (VI) Services, Audiology.

Special Education Timelines

A parent has a right to request an evaluation at any time. Under EDC §56320.1(a), if a parent is requesting an assessment, the LEA/district must respond in writing within 15 days of the written request. For a student with an existing IEP, a triennial reevaluation may be held early if mutually agreed upon by the school and parent(s).  An LEA/district may deny a parent’s request for an initial assessment or additional assessment for a student with an IEP using a Prior Written Notice (PWN) within 15 calendar days from the date of the request if the school team determines that data indicates the student is receiving a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). For initial assessments, the LEA/district must include data in the PWN to demonstrate that the student is not suspected to be eligible for special education services under any of the 13 eligibility categories of the IDEA. If an LEA/District is considering denying a request for an initial assessment or additional assessment for a student with an IEP, it is strongly encouraged that the LEA/District consult with their LEA’s assigned SELPA Program Specialist.
